This organ is not used
The famous 4/16 Wurlitzer was designed by Quentin Maclean in 1937 and includes several rare ranks, including the only Wurlitzer Harmonic Flute and 16′ English Horn extension in Europe. The console is also of a design unique to any Wurlitzer in the world, having been designed by the cinema architect George Coles. The theatre opened in 1937 with the first resident organist, Sidney Torch, at the console.
The installation originally featured a grand piano, playable from the console, but this has long since disappeared. The rest of the organ is largely intact and kept in good condition by the ATOS London Chapter. The console was originally on a rotating lift to the right-hand side of the orchestra pit; but is currently located on a fixed platform to the left-hand side, underneath the two pipe-chambers.
