Our Compton was installed in the State Cinema, Grantham (Later Granada) for its opening in October 1937, opened by Reginald New it spent a long and happy life in the theatre up until its removal in the 1970s, much to the upset of local fans. It then spent a number of years in private ownership, both in the Sheffield and Halesowen areas, before being taken on by the East Midlands Organ Museum in 2024.
The East Midlands Organ Museum having already two instruments by Conacher in their headquarters in Saxby, near Melton Mowbray, couldn’t make space for the Compton, so wound up getting in contact with Grantham Museum – and the rest as they say is history ! The instrument was installed between February and September 2026, with open console and concert days beginning in 2027, we look forward to seeing you !”
