JOIN US FOR A ‘DOUBLE BILL’ OF IN-PERSON TALKS

We are pleased to announce our return to events at Alan Baxter’s Gallery in Farringdon, London with two presentations on differing aspects of cinema exhibition.

THE NATIONAL FILM THEATRE / BFI SOUTHBANK
An illustrated talk by Allen Eyles about the history of the National Film Theatre (NFT) on the Southbank.
Originating with the ‘Telekinema’ of the 1951 Festival of Britain through a change of location and various extension to become BFI Southbank in 2007.
The CTA was founded at the NFT in 1967.
Allen Eyles is a celebrated author of many books associated with film and cinema history and is a founder member and patron of the CTA.

WHEN CINEMA LET IN THE LIGHT
A second insta lment of Martin Cleave’s celebration of the contribution of light music to the cinema-going experience.
Presenting historic recordings from the orchestras of the silent era and of the organists who replaced them,
the music is accompanied by images of the historic cinemas where it was performed.
Martin, who is Pianist and Music Director at the Royal Academy of Dance, has a lifelong interest in cinema history,

Turn left outside Farringdon (old) Underground station and walk about 150 yards until you see the ‘Snappy Snaps’ shop on the left-hand side.
The entrance to the Gallery is opposite it; walk through the large gates, acro ss the courtyard to the far end, turn right down the steps and you’re there!

If you are using the new Farringdon Thameslink/Elizabeth Line station exit (do NOT follow the Barbican signs), turn right
