Saltaire
We welcome Scottish organist Dr Iain McGlinchey to the console of the Victoria Hall Saltaire Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ for a concert of light and popular music, on 8th November at 2.30pm .
Iain is part of a generation of performers carrying the theatre-organ tradition forward while remaining faithful to the music and playing styles that have made these instruments so enduringly popular. His programmes embrace the full breadth of the repertoire, moving comfortably between music from stage and screen, dance-band favourites, orchestral arrangements and familiar popular melodies.
A welcome performer on the UK theatre-organ circuit, Iain is known for colorful registrations, rhythmic playing and an engaging approach to programme building. He allows each instrument’s individual character to shape his arrangements, bringing its orchestral voices together with clarity, imagination and a strong sense of musical storytelling.
The Saltaire Wurlitzer should prove an ideal match for his lively and varied style. Audiences of all ages can look forward to an afternoon of familiar tunes, rich tonal colour and plenty of contrast, all brought to life on one of the country’s finest surviving theatre organs.
Light refreshments will be available for a donation, plus an opportunity to see the organ chambers under the stage containing nearly 1,000 pipes and percussions. There is level access from Lockwood Street (via a lift) and the hall is only a few minutes’ walk from Saltaire station. The concert is presented by the Cinema Organ Society (reg charity no. 1189263).
