SUMMARY:Saltaire
DESCRIPTION:Nicholas Martin B.E.M Further details: \n \nNicholas Martin BEM is a theatre organist with a career spanning more than four decades\, whose playing has taken him to some of the most celebrated venues in the country. He first encountered the organ as a boy during a family visit to Blackpool\, where hearing Reginald Dixon play the Tower Ballroom Wurlitzer set him on a path he has never left. \nIn 1981\, aged just seventeen\, he became one of the youngest resident organists ever to play the Wurlitzer at Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Two years later he was appointed resident organist at Turner’s Musical Merry-Go-Round in Northampton\, where he spent over twenty years playing the former Paramount Newcastle Wurlitzer and recording a string of popular albums. A familiar voice on BBC Radio 2’s The Organist Entertains\, he has delighted audiences across the country with a programme that is as entertaining as it is musically accomplished. \nAway from the keyboard\, Nicholas and his wife Marianne founded the charity Miracles to Believe In in 2001\, which supports children and families affected by autism\, and it was for this work that he was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s New Year Honours in 2014. \nWhether you are a lifelong devotee of the theatre organ or simply looking for a wonderful Sunday afternoon out\, this is a concert not to be missed. Nicholas brings warmth\, humour and real showmanship to everything he plays\, and an afternoon in his company is guaranteed to leave you smiling. Refreshments available\, under stage tours to see the organ pipes and percussions\, level access from Lockwood Street. Come and join us at Victoria Hall\, Saltaire on Sunday 10th May at 2:30pm.

SUMMARY:Saltaire
DESCRIPTION:Richard Hills – see flyer for more details…\n \nRichard Hills  is widely acknowledged as one of the very few musicians to have bridged and mastered the divide between the classical and theatre organ worlds with organ scholarships of Exeter College Oxford\, Portsmouth Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. He now combines a freelance solo career teaching work and is the Organist of St Mary’s\, Bourne Street\,London.\n \nRichard’s career in the theatre organ world has been equally prestigious. He has numerous prizes and awards to his credit\, both in this country and in the USA\, where he was named ‘Organist of the Year’ in 2010. He has appeared many times as a soloist on national and international TV and Radio in programmes and he made his solo debut at the BBC Proms in 2013. His many recording credits include\, most recently\, a disc of British music made on the magnificent dual-purpose Compton organ of Southampton’s Guildhall\, which earned a five-star review in Choir and Organ magazine.\n \nRichard is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and a strong supporter of the work of the UK’s Cinema Organ Society\, to whom he serves as Musical Adviser. Richard’s wide ranging repertoire\, light hearted approach and sense of humour combined with superb artistry make this a concert not to miss!\n \nRefreshments available (donation please)\, visit the organ chambers under stage where there are nearly 1000 pipes and percussions; displays and CDs for sale\, level entry via Lockwood Street (lift). Saltaire station about 5 minutes walk.\n
