Celebration of the refurbishment of the Conacher Organ. See flyer for mor details.
Conacher Opus 1570, an orchestral organ of 3 manuals and 22 ss, was installed in the Central Cinema, Harrogate in 1920. Remaining there for 35 years, it was removed to the church of St John the Divine, Rastrick in 1955. The organ was rebuilt with a draw stop console, although the specification remained largely unchanged. The Central Cinema was subsequently demolished.
A few years ago the church established a fund for the restoration of the organ and this has now been completed. I have just received the details from Pam Dimbleby, along with the date of the re-opening celebrations. Of the two (possibly three) surviving Conacher orchestral cinema organs, this is the only one in regular use – and it still has a tremulant!
