On Saturday we make an early start with coach departure at 8-30am as we are off to The Flower of May complex near Scarborough. There should be time to view some of their collections including traction engines, fairground rides and classic cars (bank holiday traffic permitting!). After lunch there will be a spectacular show featuring music from Simon Gledhill and Richard Hills at the two (yes two) Wurlitzer’s there – We will surely see sparks fly!
On the return towards York we will visit the Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington. This former WW2 Bomber Command airfield houses a large collection of aircraft and vehicles and many of the original buildings survive. Our evening meal will be served in their Naafi Restaurant. A short ride follows to the magnificent 13th century York Minster where we will attend their August Bank Holiday Recital. After this there is the option of some free time in the City. Arrival back at the Hotel about 10pm.
Sunday morning we leave the Hotel at 9am for the short ride to Ossett where David Lowe will be on hand at the Town Hall to play the NTOT organ. Tea and biscuits will be available.
After this first event we leave for the Paramount Cinema at Penistone where after a buffet lunch, we have an organ ‘plus’ concert with Robert Sudall at the 4 manual 20 rank organ. Robert is a member of the Northern Team and we are delighted to feature him in our convention line up.
Next it’s a trip over the Pennines through the lovely scenery of the Peak District National Park to the Plaza Cinema in Stockport. This recently restored art deco masterpiece is now stunning in the extreme. Our evening meal will be served in the newly re-opened restaurant, lovingly restored to how it looked when the building originally opened in 1932 - a must do experience.
Suitably refreshed it’s into the theatre for our silent film night. Mary Ann Wootton will be at the console from 7pm to play this original installation Compton as the audience assembles in the auditorium. Many said one of the highlights of our last convention was the silent film accompaniment of Nigel Ogden. Nigel joins us again this evening to accompany the two (real and fully restored) films on the bill, a Harold Lloyd comedy short from 1920 ’Get Out and Get Under’ followed by the main feature ‘The Cat and the Canary’ from 1927. Back to Leeds for 11pm

COS 2010 CONVENTION ITENERY
Registration takes place at our ‘base’, the Convention Hotel (Novotel City Centre, Leeds) on Friday 27th August from 11am. For those arriving early on Friday or before, we have arranged an optional event at Leeds Parish Church. Simon Lindley, the City Organist, will play and demonstrate probably one of the most recorded and broadcast classical Organs in the UK during the afternoon at various times between 2pm and 4pm. This is within easy walking distance from the Hotel but is not officially part of the convention package. Donations to the church choir fund are invited.
Everything detailed below, coach transport, meals, and events, is included in your convention fee.
The convention begins with a short coach trip, departing at 5-30pm, to the Victoria Hall Saltaire where our convention reception followed by an evening meal will be served prior to music on the COS Northern District Wurlitzer. The maestro from Blackpool Tower, Phil Kelsall, will play a short concert programme on the Wurlitzer before changing tempo to play for ballroom dancing when we welcome our regular dancing supporters to join us. We should be back at the Hotel for around
11-30pm.
Monday we depart the hotel at 10am to have a look at the lovely Yorkshire spa town of Ilkley close to the moor which inspired the ‘Yorkshire National Anthem’, followed by lunch at Harry Ramsdens’ (the original one). It’s then a short journey to The Victoria Hall at Saltaire for the grand finale to our convention - a concert on the COS Northern Wurlitzer with the highly regarded American organist John Lauter at the console. Coaches should be back at the Novotel Hotel in Leeds by 5-45pm.
