Matthew Bason was born in Northampton in 1980. At the age of 7 he commenced piano lessons and completed the graded examinations set by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College of Music, London. He was also classically trained on the 'cello, but is a self-taught organist. He made his first public appearance, aged 14, at the Cliftonville Day Centre, Northampton and began building up his reputation as a young musician at local venues ranging from day centres to working men's clubs to hotels and churches and has been playing on the "national" circuit since 1996.
Matthew has had a wide range of musical experiences. He has played piano and keyboard in jazz groups, cabaret bands and quite often finds employment as an accompanist for music exams and choirs. Whilst living in Berkshire (up to 2003) he extensively directed or co-directed and accompanied various choral groups.
He won the 1999 ATOS Young Organist of the Year Competition and the 2000 ATOS Dean Herrick Award.
Today, Matthew works full-time in music in both a teaching and performing capacity.
He is resident pianist at Kettering Park Hotel where he plays every Friday and Saturday nights and plays both pipe and electronic organ for concerts, ballroom and sequence dancing.
Matthew was recently married to Jenny and they now live in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire.
